Highlights

Unmatched Safety Features: The Opto XLink™ has additional features to increase patient comfort and safety during treatment:

  • Emergency switch on front panel;
  • Safety interlock;
  • Audible alarm when irradiance is set higher than 3m/cm2;
  • Treatment pause/resume;
  • Key Activated System

Self Calibrating: Accurate internal power meter and feedback loop control deliver consistent UV irradiation during the entire procedure and eliminate the need for periodic calibration.

Advanced optical system: Our unique LED UV Cluster System provides homogeneous UV light irradiation across the cornea, eliminating dangerous hot spots and ensuring greater accuracy and safety during procedures. The system also offers 3 selectable spot sizes: 6, 8 and 10 mm and contains an internal micro processor which controls all system functions.

Internal patient fixation target: to increase patient safety and comfort during the procedure.

Aiming laser beam: for accurate focusing and positioning.

The  Opto XLink™ is not FDA approved. This product is not for sale in the USA.

Additional Information

Corneal Collagen Cross Linking

The Principle

  • A fast evolving treatment of choice, primarily in successful management of Progressive Keratoconus, Collagen Corneal Cross-Linking utilizes riboflavin (vitamin B²) as photosensitizing agent applied to the eye, and ultraviolet light (UV-A, 370nm) as the activation source. The UV-A activated riboflavin then stimulates production of singlet oxygen O² assisting physical formation of new cross-linked bonds across adjacent collagen strands in the stroma.
  • Ongoing clinical research has demonstrated successful mechanical strength recovery of the cornea, leading to successful arrest of Keratoconus progression, whereas application in conjunction with intra-corneal ring has further increased the possibility of Keratoconus reversal.

The Procedure

  • The treatment is performed in a surgical ward or practice theatre under sterile conditions and topical anaesthesia. It is strongly recommended that the corneal epithelium is surgically scraped, allowing for maximum penetration of the riboflavin in the stroma.
  • A drop of Riboflavin is applied every 5 minutes for a period of 30 minutes.
  • UV-A light is administered constantly for 30 minutes.
  • At the conclusion of the treatment, an antibiotic is applied collectively with a contact lens.
  • Use of an eye pad is recommended until the surface of the eye has healed.
  • Oral analgesics may be required.

The Future

New corneal cross-linking research is being conducted at numerous institutions around the world in order to change the treatment protocols allowing for faster procedures.

Opto XLink™ is presently the only system that can easily adjust to these new protocols.
